She was also a test and cover knitter for Patons Canada. It has been said that Margot is one of the most published independent knitwear designers in Canada. Margot wants to share her expertise, and educate hand and machine knitters alike. She has created a place where you can come, be comfortable and talk about knitting. Help is provided in 3 different ways telephone (613-836-1107), email (margot@satoricraftservices.com) and instant messenger. Margot helps you by providing problem solving techniques, assistance with how to tips and advice. “It is really important that it is run out of my home because this gives my students access to me 24/7.” Satori Crafts Monthly Club Meeting Satori Machine Knitting Club meets from September to June, and is held on the 2nd Sunday of each month from 2 - 4pm. This informal club was established to provide knitters with a forum to exchange ideas. Margot gives a monthly demo of techniques or a how to lesson with a newsletter hand out including all demo instructions. Click here to be added to the email list. As new products are introduced into the market, they are discussed and sold at these meetings. There is also a show and tell where knitters can talk about their own garments and this can become a discussion on how to turn our problems into some of our best projects. “Pattern of the Month” This is a program designed as mini tutorial. – They are teaching patterns with NO abbreviations and are written in point form. These patterns introduce new techniques which are incorporated into the pattern. All patterns are proof read and reknitted by independent knitters. The participants register by machine model, ensuring that they will never receive a pattern they cannot knit. The perks of this program are better knitting results, a much larger base of expertise and lots of discounts. Satori crafts classes are for people who like clothes! Groups are kept small (3-4 students) so Margot can provide lots of individual attention. There are also private lessons for those who prefer one on one instruction. “I wanted to take the mystery out of machine knitting and make it accessible to everyone.” Class atmosphere is kept informal to help get your creative juices flowing. All classes are hands on with notes and workbooks provided. Satori offers a fully equipped classroom, relieving knitters from bringing their own knitting machines. “When I teach a class, I like to help the knitter think outside the box and guide them in addressing their individual needs. This enables the student to see how any project can be adapted to suit many points of view. I like to think of myself not only as a teacher, but also of a knitting coach”. Classes are broken down into two basic categories; PRODUCT(Finished Projects) and PROCESS(Technical Know-how), and are then grouped into four levels of difficulty. PRODUCT (Finished Projects) based classes will give you garments or projects which are completed in class. There is also a grouping of KNIT TO FIT classes. These are based on a unique road map system that teaches the knitter to design and knit through a garment beginning with a tension swatch to completing a garment in any size on any gauge of knitting machine. These are certificate classes, and are a very organized form of machine instruction. PROCESS (Technical Know-how) based classes are the building blocks of good garment construction teaching basic knitting skills to develop a knitters “hands”, and techniques such as bust darts, assembling and finishing methods and hand manipulation, plus use of accessories such as the garter bar and knit leader. Machine Maintenance We also have a wide range of new and used machines, accessories, yarns, and publications. Satori Craft Services 6231 Hazeldean Rd.
